Jevil Deltarune: Chaos Jester, Broken Keys & SPARE

Jevil is Deltarune Chapter 1's Chaos Jester and secret boss. To reach him, take Card Castle's elevator to the hidden ?????? floor, speak to him through the locked cell, collect Broken Keys A, B and C, and ask Malius to repair them into the Door Key. Return to the cell to start the battle. SPARE him for Jevilstail, or defeat him with FIGHT for Devilsknife; both routes award a Shadow Crystal.

Jevil location: the hidden Card Castle floor

Jevil is imprisoned below Card Castle on the elevator floor labeled ??????. Visit the cell and speak to him before collecting the keys. He tells the party that the old shopkeeper knows a secret; this conversation is what lets Seam give you the first key piece.

You can leave, collect all three pieces, and return before finishing Chapter 1. Make a SAVE before opening the repaired door so you can try both the FIGHT and SPARE outcomes without replaying the whole key route.

How to get Broken Key A

After speaking to Jevil, return to Seam's Shop in Field, left of the shortcut door. Ask Seam about the strange prisoner. Seam gives you Broken Key A and hints that another piece lies where the stars do not shine.

If Seam does not hand over the piece, the usual cause is that you have not spoken to Jevil at the cell yet.

How to get Broken Key B

Broken Key B is in the Forest's Sheary room. The chest is visible on the southeast side, but the route starts on a hidden black path at the southwest edge of the room. Walk onto the dark path, follow it across, pass the Rabbick encounter, and open the chest.

The path is deliberately hard to see. If you can see the chest but cannot reach it, stop trying to approach from the east and inspect the middle of the room's southern edge instead.

How to get Broken Key C

Broken Key C is behind the card-suit puzzle in Field, northeast of the shortcut door and before the Great Board. Enter the suits in this order:

Diamond → Heart → Club → Spade

The order matches Card Castle's shaped floor doors from bottom to top. Solving it retracts the spikes and opens the path to the chest containing Broken Key C.

Repair the Door Key and open Jevil's cell

Take all three Broken Keys to Malius, the smith in the Bake Sale area. Malius combines them into the Door Key. Return to Card Castle's ?????? floor and use it in front of Jevil's cell. The key creates the entrance to his arena.

Before entering:

• SAVE so you can retry without repeating the route.
• Fill the inventory with healing items such as Darkburgers and the Top Cake or Spin Cake.
• Equip your best available defense if you plan to SPARE.
• Decide whether you want Jevilstail or Devilsknife; the ending method determines the item.

FIGHT or SPARE: which Jevil reward should you choose?

Choose SPARE for Jevilstail if you want flexible armor that any party member can use. Choose FIGHT for Devilsknife if you want Susie's high-attack axe and lower Rude Buster TP cost. Neither choice blocks the Shadow Crystal.

How to SPARE Jevil

Jevil does not use a normal MERCY bar. The peaceful route is a fatigue fight:

1. Build TP while defending and surviving his attack patterns.
2. Use Hypnosis when all three party members can act; it costs 50 TP and reliably tires him.
3. Use Pirouette when Hypnosis is unavailable. Its turn-based effects vary, so treat it as a cheaper but less predictable option.
4. Keep Ralsei alive. He must cast Pacify after Jevil becomes tired.
5. When Jevil is exhausted, use Pacify to end the fight and receive Jevilstail.

How to defeat Jevil with FIGHT

The aggressive route is mechanically simpler but still demands survival. Jevil has 3,500 HP, 10 AT and 5 DF. Attack whenever the party is stable, defend when you need TP or damage reduction, and heal before a weak party member becomes a liability. Reducing his HP to zero awards Devilsknife.

Jevil's pattern order is structured rather than completely random. The interactive boss sheet lists the attacks and gives you a compact reference while playing.

Can I fight Jevil after beating King?

Do the Jevil route before ending Chapter 1. The safest workflow is to complete the keys and fight him before advancing through the chapter finale.

Do I need to beat Jevil for the main story?

No. Jevil is optional. His battle, equipment and Shadow Crystal reward are bonus content.

Can I get both Jevilstail and Devilsknife on one file?

One completed battle grants one equipment reward. SAVE before opening the cell if you want to experience both outcomes, then keep the completion that has your preferred item.

Does either route give a Shadow Crystal?

Yes. Both Pacify and FIGHT outcomes award the Chapter 1 Shadow Crystal.
